Monday, July 04: Run-D.M.C. and Aerosmith's "Walk This Way" Turns 30

On this day, in 1986, one of the most significant songs in Hip-Hop history was released. Run-D.M.C. covered Aerosmith's "Walk This Way" (the original came out in '77) with assistance from Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. The song was a tremendous hit and made it into the top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts, which even surpassed the first one at its peak. "Walk This Way" is widely regarded as one of the songs responsible for introducing rap music to a mainstream audience. Three decades later, the song still holds up and is an undisputed classic.
Tuesday, July 05: Happy Birthday, RZA

Happy Born Day to one of the best producers in Hip-Hop history, The RZA! In addition to being a genius behind the boards, he was also an integral part of putting together the iconic Wu-Tang Clan and making memorable contributions to not only the group, but also many of the members' solo projects as well. In addition to music, RZA is also in the film industry. In recent years, he has received acclaim for his work with Quentin Tarantino and his own two Man With the Iron Fists scripts.
Wednesday, July 06: Happy Birthday, 50 Cent

Happy Birthday, 50! After creating a buzz in the industry via the infamous record, "How to Rob," 50 Cent was shot nine times. After recovering, he signed with Eminem and Dr. Dre and released a series of blockbuster albums. His business savvy also helped him acquire numerous other ventures, including an unprecedented one with Vitamin water which netted 50 approximately $400 million dollars. Currently, while 50 does continue to make music, he has found success in television which he is currently capitalizing on. He is an actor on and an executive producer of the Starz hit show, Power.
Thursday, July 07: Eric B. & Rakim's 'Paid in Full' Turns 29

On this day, in 1987, Eric B. and Rakim released their debut album and forever changed Hip-Hop. Eric B's minimalist production style was a perfect complement to Rakim's masterful lyricism and poetic delivery. Prior to their arrival, rap was mostly just loud rhymes atop music delivered to instigate or maintain a party atmosphere. Paid in Full, however, was a turning point and Rakim's internal rhyme schemes and the way Eric could get down on the 1's and 2's were both presented with a level of artistry previously unseen. "Even if it's jazz, or the quiet storm / I hook a beat up, convert it into Hip-Hop form / Write a rhyme in graffitti in every show you see me in / Deep concentration, cause I'm no comedian."
Friday, July 08: Foxy Brown's Home is Robbed

In 1998, Foxy Brown's home was robbed while she was there with her mother. The people who committed the break in were armed, but thankfully no one was harmed during the unfortunate events.
Saturday, July 09: The "Kenneth Babyface Edmonds Highway" is Established

On the same day that R&B icon and co-founder of LaFace Records Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds made a $50,000 donation to start vh1's Save the Music campaign in his home state of Indiana in 1999, the state of Indiana renamed 25 miles of Interstate Route 65 the "Kenneth Babyface Edmonds Highway."
Sunday, July 10: Kid Rock Gets Sued by His Manager

After a disagreement over money, Kid Rock was sued by his manager, Stephen Hutton, in 2000 for allegedly being fired for unreasonable circumstances. In March of 2001, Rock and Hutton settled the suit and released a joint statement saying, "We are glad that this case has been settled fairly and that the litigation has been brought to an end. There are no hard feelings, and we wish each other well."
